Fritze DeZein has the ability to create multiple high-precision components for one-off prototypes or small-volume production. The tortoise and the Hare…. Haas VM-3 Our 4-axis vertical mill is a specialized model which has been developed for mold making. The VM-3 is built for brawn with its heavy castings, large table, and fine-pitch ball screws. It’s a fair trade getting maximum rigidity and thrust for a little less speed. The VM-3 can accommodate parts as large as an engine block; 40” long x 26 wide” and 25” tall. Its 30 hp 12,000 rpm spindle can machine hardened steel with a positioning error of less than 0.0002”. We have a large capacity 4-axis turntable to make those difficult parts possible. With 300 ft-lb of holding torque, it can support boring the cylinders of a V8 and it has the precision to repeat to 10 arc-seconds. The VM-3 was designed for mold makers and it is ideal for pattern makers and prototype shops. So, perhaps the tortoise does win the race at the end of the day? Haas TL-2 Our lathe is capable of swinging a 19” part over the apron or 16” in diameter 48” long. Its 12 hp servo-drive spindle can generate 150 ft-lbs of torque and spin at 1800 rpm! The TL-2 has the advantage of being manually operated for quick set-ups and simple operations. It also can be fully programmed to automate multiple tools and produce parts with tolerances in the tenths. The CNC machines are programmed using SurfCAM which features their newly patented Velocity toolpath generation algorithms. In a nutshell, it allows the machine to run at its full speed along the straightaway, while slowing it down for the tight switchbacks on the course. We can machine most materials including plastics, composites, aluminum, stainless, and even hard steels.
